MPhil English Studies @ Cambridge

Cambridge is one heck of a place that has brought about many new stories and experiences to share. Although expensive. The Campus is beautiful and the night life isn't terrible. Study was hard work.

My time here was hard work, as expected. However, euphoria is a word which comes to mind post graduation. I'm glad all my hard work has paid off!

There isn't too much flexibility within the system. I feel that it doesn't necessarily bring out your best traits, which an institute of higher education should.

A typical good student will probably fit in. While this constitutes most of the admitted students, the system does not account for the exceptions.

The collegiate system has its pros and cons. It's very variable as to what you may find.

MPhil Planning, Growth and Regeneration @ Cambridge

reviewed on January 17, 2014

This is a taught Masters with a short dissertation (12,000 words) and exams at the start of the Lent and Easter terms. You can select a variety of courses from the other MPhils offered by the Department of Land Economy, including in Environmental Economics and Policy, Real Estate Finance, and Development Studies, to go alongside core papers on issues related to planning and growth.
This Masters is offered by the Dept of Land Economy. The student cohort on the MPhil courses are quite international.

BA Land Economy @ Cambridge

reviewed on November 21, 2013

Land Economy is a great course for those who want a multi-disciplinary education - it combines Economics, Law, and some environmental and historical studies. The first year provides a good grounding in Economics, Public Law (of England) and basic accounting and statistics, plus another paper which takes broad look at land and environment through the years. The focus is quite UK centric in general.

The second and third years allow for more specialisation, with elective papers and a dissertation in the third year. Here there are more opportuntiies for an international focus.

The department is small and quite friendly. My undergrad yeargroup was around 40 students. Because of the small size of the course, most supervisions were held in the department, rather than in college like for most other subjects. However, college is very much the centre of your social life, as this is where you live, have dinner, attend formal dinners, go to the bar, etc.

The Land Economy library has all the books you need for the course; the lecture halls are very close to the department, which has good printing facilities (at least in my time!). And like with any Cambridge course, you can always sit in on lectures in other departments.
