Lecturers are good, very enthusiastic. The campus is picturesque but sadly a bit far from the centre of Edinburgh, about 40 minutes by bus. The course is challenging but worthwhile.

Studying at Heriot-Watt is so much fun, I cant ever imagine being at another university. Heriot-Watt has a large union with many interesting and societies and the opportunity to get involved in things you may have never thought you would.

This uni is amazing! Because it's not very big we all kind of end up knowing each other, through friends, sports clubs and societies. Teachers are very friendly and always willing to help you out if you're having trouble with something, course-related or not. If the social events on campus aren't the best, the socials organised by sport clubs and societies are always good fun as it feels great to be part of a team! The campus isn't too big, it's pretty and if some will complain about the bus ride, it's definitely worth it! It's a great environment to study and I don't regret picking Heriot-Watt for one second!

Only a few months in but I have made loads of friends. I don't actually live on campus, but in Edinburgh city centre, but there always seems to things going on at the campus, which is on the outskirts of the city. It's a tough course, but the lecturers and tutor are very intelligent, very knowledgeable, and very helpful, but sometimes struggle to complain very complicated concepts in simple terms (which you could argue is fair enough). I've got an excellent social life, with friends on campus, and friends in my halls in the city centre. There's always somebody doing something!

Enjoyable and vibrant community, very easy to settle into. Biggest letdown is that there are no dinosaurs, but I didn't actually expect to see any.

BEng/MEng Mechanical Engineering @ Heriot-Watt

My Uni experience so far has been incredible. 1st year was easily the best year of my life as everyone gets thrown in the deep end together and its all about making friends and having a great time. Making friends is a piece of cake at Heriot Watt, the fresher helpers organise several meeting events which force you into meeting all the other interesting and down to earth students and soon you will have made plenty of new friends. In first year most Heriot Watt students live on campus and so journeys to lectures take maximum 5 minutes. This also makes it easy to meet a lecturer outside of class time if you have any queries. The teaching staff always seem dedicated and enthusiastic towards their jobs and this definitely rubs off on the students. Rarely do I feel I haven't learnt much in a lecture as it is easy to get interested on the topics that are being taught due to the teaching styles. The Union at Heriot Watt is situated on campus so for 1st years this is a common hang out spot and it is an excellent place to chill and eat between or after lectures for all years. The majority of 2nd-5th years will live off campus so this means travelling into Uni regularly by bus, this is not too much of an issue as this is really only for lectures as all other information can be found on the Uni's online system 'vision' or by emailing the punctual lecturers. Overall, I would definitely say Heriot Watt is an excellent place to study, live and make friends.

The university is located on the outskirts of Edinburgh city in a quiet and lovely campus. The course itself has some interesting lecturers who are passionate and knowledgeable about what they are teaching. Not only will you improve academically, you will also have the opportunity to progress and mature as a young adult by learning the everyday survival skills as you live away from home, whether it be on-campus or off-campus. Definitely recommend it.
