BA (Hons) Classical Civilisation @ Swansea

reviewed on August 13, 2014

The teaching is great and all lecturers are approachable and very helpful both with the modules they teach and any other questions you may have to do with university. They are there to help you but also look out for you if you run into any problems.

Socially there are a lot of things going on and loads of societies to join, it is well worth joining a few societies and making an effort to make meetings and make some new friends; being on a committee of a society is also incredibly rewarding. Joining the relevant society to your degree can be helpful as it allows you to make friends with older students who can in turn help you with the areas you are struggling with. Subject societies also allow you to see lecturers for who they are and realise that they are actually nice people and can be quite funny! They also provide great opportunities to go on trips for a lot less money to places like Greece or even just a day trip to London.

Swansea university campus itself is great and has many places to grab food and most importantly caffeine! it also has a fair bit of study space which is important come exam time. JC's bar and coffee shop is a friendly place to spend free time and is also good value.

Overall these past 2 years at Swansea have been great and I can't wait for the next one, getting involved with the Students' Union has been great and definitely something I would recommend!

BA (Hons) History @ Swansea

Overall, I had a good experience at Swansea University. The location of the university provides an ideal balance of tranquility with the beaches and amazing views, and an excellent social life with town a mere five minute drive away. The campus provided a good atmosphere for learning and the lecturers taught stimulating lectures. The university does, however, need to work on it's approach to mental health. I have suffered with depression throughout my studies and received little to no help during exam times and teaching times to accommodate my difficulties in concentration. I have been assessed by the mental health team and deemed to need assistance, but I have received none, with particular regard to needing extra time in exams and not getting it. The lecturers need to be more aware of mental health issues an be ready to tackle them.

I have been studying in Swansea for two years. The place is great! However, it is a small city to live. I feel comfortable with my courses and my lectures.
