University of the Arts London is a collegiate university with six constituent colleges located within the Great London area. Previously independent, the six colleges joined in 1986 as the London Institute. In 2004, the University received its royal charter as a University. Some parts of the university including Central St Martins date back to the late 1800s and are famous worldwide.
The six colleges operate largely independently but share some services and degree granting authority.
The colleges are:
- Camberwell College of Arts
- Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design
- Chelsea College of Art and Design
- London College of Communication
- London College of Fashion
- Wimbledon College of Art
